Why VeriPath Was Created

In 2025, I was diagnosed with diverticulitis—a painful and urgent condition that required immediate attention. During my visit, my physician recommended an abdominal CT scan to confirm the diagnosis. 

As the office staff began scheduling the procedure at a local hospital, I asked a simple question: “What is the cash price for this scan?”

That question wasn’t accidental. After more than 23 years in the health insurance industry, I’ve learned that the price billed is often very different from the price that can actually be paid. 

Later that day, I arrived for my appointment and confirmed the cash price for the CT scan: $491. Out of curiosity—and professional instinct—I asked another question:

“What will the hospital bill my insurance?”

The answer was staggering. They would be submitting a claim for over $6,000 for the exact same procedure.

The Moment Everything Changed

In that moment, the problem became crystal clear.

Two prices.
Same scan.
Same facility.

One was transparent and accessible while the other was inflated, hidden, and routed through a system that few people truly understand and most patients never even know to ask.
